What Your Graduate School Essay Absolutely Must Be About

When it comes to write a graduate school assay, many students stumble. Their brains stop working. Their mind goes blank. But there’s also students who are able to write excellent assays. It’s no sweat to them. They can do it easily and fast.

So What Makes The Difference?

Students, who got into the schools, KNOW THE SECRET. They know what the schools want. They understand the mindset of the school’s examiners. It doesn’t concern the IQ level.

Is that difficult for you?

If your essay failed to get you into graduate school, what can you do to succeed next time?
First and most important of all, you must ask yourself this question “What are the examiner’s objectives?”

Are they interested to know about your talent? Sure do. No school will accept an Einstein if it is a business school. But that’s not good enough!

So what’s the other factor? In fact, it’s more important than the first one.

It’s pretty obvious if you understand human nature. The purpose of an essay s also to know about your attitude. The school won’t accept a problematic student even if he or she is genius. Can you imagine what would happen if such admission is allowed?

Truth is the schools want students who take care of their own personal discipline. They want students who want to study hard. After all, the results that you get could affect the reputation of the school. It’s just the realty. Let’s face it. It isn’t like the Hollywood movie you’ve watched… A genius skips classes often and the school depends on him. No such thing!

It’s true that everyone has the right to education. But never forget – The school also has the right to pick the students. Some hotshots think so highly for themselves. They said, “If the school doesn’t accept me, it’s their loss!” BUT they became jealous when humble students with lower scores got in. What gives?

It’s about your attitude.

So, when you’re writing for an assay, only two things you should emphasize. First, your aptitude does count. Secondly, your attitude matters MOST. Bear in mind – Attitude problem won’t get you in. Aptitude problem may. Ok. Let’s assume you’ve no problem in both. Your score is high. Your attitude is super.

Over the years I’ve helped students with their writing and preparation for college. One of the things that amaze me is that many students have no idea of what their college admission essay should be. Simply put, the essay is about YOU. No matter what the question you are writing about is, no matter how strangely the question is phrased — YOU MUST WRITE ABOUT YOU.

Although the admissions essay is becoming more important every year, it still is NOT the most important part of your application packet. For the vast majority of colleges and universities, the admissions office will use the essay as a tiebreaker. If two students are very close in all academic qualities, the student with the better essay will have a better chance of being admitted. The admission officials just want to get their job done fast and easy.

However, rarely is an admissions essay going to gain admittance with a weak academic record, lack of participation in high school activities, and poor test scores. So, don’t bank on your admissions essay to carry the ball for you. A well-written essay that isn’t backed by academic records and test scores indicate that someone else wrote the student’s admission essay.

Take a moment and think about how the admissions official will use your essay and what he or she wants. He or she wants to know something about you. He or she wants to know what makes you more worthy of admission than someone else. When you are writing your essay make it personal. Make it about YOU! Good luck with your essay!
